Dolly makes a plan.
We are faced with a battle against a numerically superior group that has us outgunned, mostly because they have guns and we don’t. In a situation like this you don’t have a lot of options so you have to take advantage of any ticks you have up your sleeve no matter how unacceptable they might seem.
We have established that they have about fifteen people, all of whom have guns, a psychopathic leader, and a stated desire to torture, kill, and eat us. Since we don’t want to torture or eat them, we have only one goal, to kill them or hurt them so badly that they no longer present a threat.
Stuffy reported that they seem to be settling in for the night, which buys us some time to prepare. Our first order of business is to lay traps. If we can get them to separate, we will have a better chance of reducing their numbers. Our weapons in addition to the ones already named included a roll of high tensile strength fishing line, fishing hooks, and a box full of glass bottles.
“Here’s what I have in mind, but it’s all dependent on how they respond. My belief is that, other than Kurtz, they are untrained for the most part, which makes them vulnerable to techniques that wouldn’t work on better trained people. I’m hoping that they will act on their own rather than wait for instructions or will behave badly when instructions are given. We need to even the odds by removing some of them from the equation by killing them or injuring them which, hopefully, will also confuse, disorient, and scare them.
The hard part is going to be laying the traps without getting caught. We have to choose locations that will result in maximum damage to them and minimal harm to us.
Gather ‘round boys and girl and let me fill you in. Since none of you have participated in an operation like this, I would appreciate it if you just accept my plan without question.”
“We can’t ask any questions?” Said Stuffy.
“No, you can’t, because in this situation they will probably be stupid questions based on your lack of knowledge in this arena.”
“That doesn’t seem fair. We should have some input.” Stuffy said.
“Let me put it another way, shut the fuck up, listen, and do what I say, and maybe we’ll live through this. Now here is what we are going to do. Since they have been unchallenged for quite some time it’s possible that they’re overconfident, that works to our advantage. Because of that confidence they might not post a watch, they also might still be afraid because of us killing one of them at their camp in Vegas, and I think that Kurtz might insist on a guard. He will most likely place him somewhere where he can see the camp but not be seen, which will make him easy to find. We need a rock to break up the glass, and we need to string the fishhooks on the line, then we need to plan a route that will allow us to lead them where we want them to go and put the glass on the ground, and tie the fishhooks across the path at eye level about a hundred yards from the glass, and last we are going to post the Priest behind a wall or tree a little further on. If it works the way I’m hoping it will, we should be able to take out three to five of them with just this tactic.”
“How will it take them out?” asked Por.
“After the sentry is dead, and I have his gun I’m going to sneak into the camp and tie their shoelaces together, then you’re going to make some noise to wake them up. When they get up, they will trip and fall.”
“That sounds funny, but not very effective.” She said.
Dolly glared at her. “What did I say about questions?”
“It was more of a statement than a question.”
“When they fall they will start trying to untie the laces, they will fail and at least some of them will take off their shoes to come after you. You will taunt them and then lead them toward the glass, if they took off their shoes they’ll step on the glass and most likely fall, and then they will be rolling around in broken glass trying to get up. The others, who notice this, will go around the glass and continue chasing you. You’ll lead them into the space where the fishhooks are placed and at least one of them and maybe more will run into the hooks, if there are any left they will avoid the hooks and continue the chase where they will come to the Priest who will step out and take the remaining ones out with his stick. You can get involved then and help him out if he needs it.”
The Priest raised his hand. Dolly shook his head and said, “What?”
“That sound a little convoluted. If you have the sentry’s gun, why don’t you just shoot them, or bring the crossbow?”
“Where would be the fun in that? This may very well be our last stand, and if that’s the case I want to enjoy myself.”
I love the way you think.
I am glad that Dolly is on our side. If he doesn't get us all killed.
