Dark night.
Stuffy returned with a knife and cut Dolly down. Dolly collapsed and Stuffy giggled but stopped abruptly when he caught the look in Dolly’s eyes.
“How shall we proceed? I’ll leave it to you because you are the tactical guy.” Said Stuffy.
“Where are the weapons?”
“In that shack over there.”
“Follow me.” Said Dolly.
The two stayed low and as hidden as they could be. The group was passed out and sleeping where they fell. Stuffy pointed out the sentry.
“We’ll deal with him first,” Said Dolly.
“I don’t know if this is the right time to bring this up, but I’ve never killed anyone before. I always thought I might be good at it because I don’t feel the same emotions that other people feel when they do stuff like killing people.”
Dolly stared at him.
“So, you think you’ll be good at it, do you?”
“I do.”
“We’ll find out soon enough”
They made it to the shack without being discovered. The door was unlocked. They quietly made their way in and looked around. The moon was full and there was enough light to see. Stuffy got the Priest’s stick and Dolly found his knives.
“Are there any guns in here?” He asked.
“No, they all keep their guns with them.”
“They are sleeping roughly in a circle…”
“Your powers of observation are astounding.” Said Stuffy with a small smile on his face, which faded quickly when he saw the evil eye Dolly was giving him.
“Where’s Kurtz?”
“He’s sleeps in the cabin just past the sentry.”
“We’re going to go out and work our way around to the outside of the circle, and then start with them. Have you ever used a knife before?”
“No, but how hard could it be?”
Dolly ignored him.
“You want to place the tip of the blade right against the hollow beneath the Adam’s apple, and then shove, hard. It will be harder than you think. Place the tip like this, put the heel of your hand on top of the knife and then push. This will keep them quiet, and then you can draw the blade across their throat, and that will send them to Valhalla.”
“A Viking reference, really?” Said Stuffy.
The look came back.
“Okay, it’s a good reference.”
“How many of them are there?”
“I counted fifteen.”
“Piece of cake.” Said Dolly.
They snuck out of the cabin, and split up, with Dolly going right and Stuffy going left.
Stuffy was pleased at his chance to finally test his theory about his being able to kill people.
They got to the back edge of the group, and he put it to the test. Placing the knife on the man’s throat, he pushed. It wasn’t as hard as Dolly made it out to be.
Blood spurted out as he drew the blade across his victim’s throat.
He looked over to see if Dolly had noticed how good he was at killing, but Dolly was moving efficiently through the sleeping men, having already dispatched three of them.
Stuffy knew he would get better with practice, and he was pleased to note that his assessment of his ability to kill without feeling was correct, and it was kind of fun.
He moved on to the next man.
It was weird that none of them even woke up. If they had woken up it would have been more of a challenge and probably more fun because then he could watch their eyes as they died.
He hoped that he wasn’t too good at it because then he might have to admit that he was more fucked up than he thought.
Kurtz never slept very deep. He had woken up at the sound of Dolly falling to the ground. He stayed very still, listening, and the slight gurgling noise of men who were having their throats cut told him all he needed to know about what was happening outside. He reached for the rifle near his bed and slowly crawled through the back window of the cabin. He watched from the tree line as his men were slaughtered.
“Well shit.” He said in a whisper. “That just takes the wind right out of my sails. Oh well, time to go. That little punk put one over on me. Clever little bastard.” He moved off into the darkness.
Dolly and Stuffy finished up their grisly task and went to set the others free.
The Priest had been lying awake and growled when Stuffy approached.
“You little fucker.” He said.
“I wasn’t nearly the turncoat you thought I was.” Said Stuffy as he cut the Priest and the others loose. Tiki smiled and said, “I knew you weren’t bad.”
Por said nothing.
Dolly came up, covered in blood. “We have to go.”
“Did you get Kurtz?” Asked Por.
“He snuck off, exactly like the coward I knew him to be.”
“We’ll get him.” She said.
“Let’s get our stuff and get out of here.”
“Are they all dead?” Asked Tiki.
“Yes they are.” Said Stuffy.
“Maybe we should eat them.” He said with a twisted little smile on his face.
“Maybe later. They’ll keep.”

You sure have a gift for the macabre! 😱🖤👍
Tiki, I'm shocked! Has no one ever taught you The Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"?
